The fourth annual X Games Tignes concluded today in France with 46,500 fans, bringing the three day event total to a record-breaking 117,000. This is the highest X Games winter event attendance in history, beating X Games Aspen - a four day event - in just three days.
Men Snowboard Slopestyle // SEBASTIEN TOUTANT Gold
Once again the last day of the snowboard competition lived up to its promises. Slopestyle was at the heart of the party this morning in Tignes, and the men's contest turned out to be a highly acrobatic show. The Norwegian star Torstein Horgmo, who took first place in the qualifying rounds, injured his ankle on his second run and was forced to prematurely drop out of the competition. The battle for the top place on the podium would eventually oppose two Canadians that are also very good friends: Marc Mc Morris and Sebastien Toutant. The two of them largely accustomed to podium places over the last three years. Peetu Piiroinen completes the podium. Peetu who once again let his versatility do the talking during these X Games Tignes, where he was one of the only riders to take part in both the Slopestyle and the SuperPipe.
With nearly identical runs, that both included the infamous triple cork, it was the Quebecois Seb Toutant's clean airs and amplitude that enabled him to best Marc Mc Morris with a second run that was scored at 95 points.

WHISTLER MOUNTAIN OPENING EARLY - SATURDAY NOVEMBER 17
|
|
OPENING DAY FESTIVITIES INCLUDE THE WONDER-FULL GONDOLAS EVENT GIFTS FOR THE FIRST 1500 GUESTS!
WHISTLER, BC November 13, 2012 - Thanks to cool temperatures, impressive snowmaking and natural snowfall Whistler Mountain will open five days early on Saturday, November 17. With five lifts running, guests will have the option to upload from either the Whistler Village Gondola or the Creekside Gondola. Blackcomb Mountain will open, as scheduled, on American Thanksgiving, Thursday, November 22, 2012.
"In addition to new snow and a great forecast lining up towards the end of this week, our fleet of 220 state-of-the-art snow guns has converted over 70 million gallons of water into snow over the past few weeks. This ensures excellent on-piste coverage for quality skiing and riding on opening day," says Doug MacFarlane, mountain manager at Whistler Blackcomb. "Despite the amount of snow we have made, we want to remind guests early season conditions will apply, especially off piste. It is important to obey mountain signage, ski and ride on open runs only and stay within the operational area marked by "Temporary Boundary" signage. Guests should be aware there will be rocks and other hazards below the snow surface; we do not recommend skiing and riding outside the temporary boundary in any circumstances."

50-Inch Storm Kicks Off Snowbird Season, Allows Early Opening
|
|
SNOWBIRD, UT - The storm that left one to two feet of snow in Salt Lake City deposited 50 inches of snow at Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort between Friday and Sunday, allowing the resort to open early, on Thursday, Nov. 15. "This is the storm we needed to get the season started off right," said Bob Bonar, President of Snowbird. "Lake effect made a good storm into a great storm leaving more than four feet of snow throughout the mountain."
The resort installed new snowmaking equipment over the summer, doubling its snowmaking capacity and allowing more terrain to open earlier in the season. Snowbird also updated the Little Cloud chairlift to a high speed detachable quad. The new lift will have its grand opening with a celebration on Dec. 1.
Gadzoom, Mid-Gad and Chickadee chairlifts will be open on Thursday. Beginner terrain will be available on Chickadee. Intermediate and Advanced terrain will be available on Bassackwards and Big Emma. The Aerial Tram is scheduled to open with skiing on Regulator Johnson on Saturday, Nov. 17, conditions permitting. The remainder of the mountain will be closed to all guests, including hikers.
All-day tickets will be sold at a reduced price. Lodging and lift ticket packages are available for as little as $99 per person (plus tax and resort fees, two night minimum stay). Details can be found at Snowbird.com, or call (801) 933-2222.
